What is vaping?
Vaping is 95% less harmful than smoking tobacco and can be used to help you quit, help you cut down and prevent relapse.
E-cigarettes or vapes are devices that deliver nicotine within an inhalable aerosol by heating a solution that typically contains nicotine, propylene glycol and/or glycol, plus flavours. This aerosol is commonly referred to as vapour and so the use of e-cigarettes is described as vaping.
Electronic cigarettes generally consist of a battery, a vaporizing chamber and electronic cigarette liquid. The liquid can be contained in sealed cartridges or can be added to a tank system. Some electronic cigarettes use “cartomizers” that combine the vaporizing system and electronic cigarette liquid in a single unit.
Unlike cigarettes, there is no combustion (burning) involved in e-cigarettes so there is no smoke or other harmful products of combustion such as tar or carbon monoxide.
Electronic cigarettes are currently not licensed medicinal products and cannot as yet be prescribed. We can however offer support that will help people stop smoking if they buy their own e-cigarette.

What is NRT and how can it help you quit?
NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) is a 12 week course of products, including gum, lozenges, inhalators, mouthsprays, microtabs and nasal sprays.
NRT allows smokers to overcome their physiological dependence by gradually reducing their nicotine intake. It satisfies cravings, lessening and preventing withdrawal, which enables you to focus on other elements of your behaviour change.
NRT products are well absorbed, but at a much slower rate than inhalation—making long term dependence less likely.
